3 Day Staycation Guide to Charleston

Hey y’all, Kenzie here today! So if y’all have been following us on Instagram then you know that recently my husband, Trevor, and I  got the chance to take a 3-day staycation for our 3 year marriage anniversary. It’s kind of a crazy story because I entered a contest on Instagram for a chance to win a 2 night stay the Zero George Hotel in downtown Charleston along with a dinner and wine pairing for 2 at their award winning restaurant, and I WON!! I honestly couldn’t even believe it when they messaged me telling me I won.

So we decided to use those 2 nights (we added a third night because we needed a break from work, ha) for a little staycation for our anniversary! AND let me tell you, it was nothing short of a dream. So here is a little breakdown day by day of everything we did, what we thought of the hotel, where we ate, and what I wore.

DAY 1

+We arrived at Zero George and were greeted by the valet who immediately took our bags and showed us to the front desk. The front desk crew/concierge was absolutely amazing and so welcoming. They offered us some champagne along with a tour of the hotel. Honestly, I will let the pictures do the talking because it really is magical.

+After realizing that this isn’t all a dream, we relaxed on the porch with a glass of wine, which they offer free from 5-6, along with a delicious complimentary cheese board. Next, we headed off to dinner at Cane Rhum Bar, where it just happened to be National rum day. They were serving $6 zombie drinks that they limit 1 per person, so we both decided to try one. Holy smokes those were some strong drinks. I couldn’t even get 3/4’s of the way finished. We ordered the jerk chicken and ahi tuna, both of which were actually really delicious. The bartender gave us a pina colada as dessert, and it was SO GOOD. The vibe of this place is so fun and makes you feel like you are on a beach in Jamaica. We also loved that this place was just a short walk from our hotel (LOVED not having to drive)!

+After our European breakfast, which is included in everyone’s stay, we headed off for a day in the sun at the Beach Club Charleston. We sat by the pool, enjoyed a bloody mary and then stepped into the spa for our couples deep tissue massage. Rough life, I know.

+We were going to eat by the pool after but there were some gnarly clouds rollin’ in, so we opted to eat somewhere downtown. We decided to grab lunch at one of my favorite spots, Circe’s Grotto. Trev got the turkey avocado panini and I got my favorite mixed green salad with turkey on top. Seriously if you want a great sandwich or salad, check this place out!!

+One of our favorite features of our stay at Zero George was the complimentary cheese and wine happy hour every night from 5-6. You are able to enjoy your cheese and wine anywhere on the property, so that was pretty amazing! We picked a different spot each night!

+For our second night out, we weren’t too hungry so we ended up just having cheese and wine and then went for a walk around downtown a little later. Towards the end of the night, we ended up stopping for a quick beer and then headed to one of our favs, Minero, for a late night dinner. We got the charcoaled grilled wings doused in Valentino hot sauce (some of my favorite wings ever) and a couple delicious tacos. You can’t go wrong with anything you order here!!

DAY 3

My favorite day of our trip, not only because this was our actual anniversary date, but because it was SO MUCH FUN.

+I had heard about candle making class before, and thought it would be a cool activity! So I booked a candle making class at Candlefish and let me tell you, it was AWESOME! Definitely, recommend this activity while in Charleston because it’s something different, and you get to take home 2 candles that YOU made yourself.

+We stopped by our favorite coffee shop just up the street from Candle Fish called, The Rise. Love their iced dirty Chai!

+ After our candle class, we took the complimentary bikes from the hotel for a ride downtown all the way to the battery. Be careful riding your bikes in Charleston, because the streets are small and very busy with traffic! This was such a fun way to explore the city and especially loved checking out all the gorgeous homes on the ride.

+ That night we had a dinner reservation at Zero George Restaurant + Bar. Our dinner at Zero Restaurant + Bar was absolutely incredible and everything I imagined it would be. Everything from the ambiance to the music, to the service and food. Our server’s name was Amy and totally made our experience one we will never forget! I didn’t bring my phone to dinner because I wanted to be as present as possible, but every single dish was worthy of a picture! Every plate of food was truly a work of art. A dining experience I will never forget!

Couldn’t have asked for a better staycation and anniversary celebration! I highly recommend staying at Zero George because it truly was magical and the epitome of southern hospitality!
