A Lowcountry Backyard Wedding: Johnny & Carol Crislip

November 4, 2017 will be remembered as the magical backyard wedding on Shem Creek. Lights were hung, candles were lit, country music played in the background, and three joined together as a family. It was truly a magical night filled with family, friends and a whole lot of LOVE.

Here is just a little glimpse into the happiest day of our lives…

We rented a beach house on IOP for the week and threw a low country boil for our rehearsal dinner, and it couldn’t have been better.

Our father, Stuart, passed away three years ago from cancer. He was a Kiwi, a New Zealander, a warrior and fighter his whole life. In New Zealand at special events, funerals, weddings… they perform a war dance called the Haka. It has always and will always hold a special place in our hearts as it reminds us of how strong our dad was throughout his fight with cancer.

After our ceremony, my mom sat Johnny & I down for a surprise that I will never forget. She had reached out to a local rugby team here in hopes that someone would be able to perform the haka at our wedding. The moment they came out they laid down the New Zealand flag and tears started to pour.

Our dad was a surfer as well. He lived for the water. When I first met Johnny, I remember sitting out on the porch spilling out as many memories as I could remember about my dad. I showed him pictures upon pictures. One, in particular, that has been my phone background since I can remember. Dad holding this iconic surfboard in his short white shorts while leaning up against his old school car.

After our first dance as husband and wife, my brother and I danced to Little Surfer girl by the beach boys and little did I know when I turned around my Husband had laid down his gift to me. A recreation of the board my dad was holding in my favorite picture. I mean…I feel like I looked like crap the rest of the night because I couldn’t stop crying!

The night went on…we had amazing food from Jared Whitehead, and Joe P from Palace Hotel, desserts from Browns Court Bakery, and coffee from our favorite local shop Brown Fox Coffee. Drinks and many cheers were passed around and we danced the night away(until the cops came at 8:45 & told us to turn down the music!!! Don’t worry I got a picture with him lol)

Our secrets to healthy glowing skin

Our skin has never been more of a priority than now! Flawless, glowing skin is something that everyone yearns for, and we have finally found products that have helped us achieve our skin goals!

Along with the products we use it’s important to keep a healthy lifestyle to maintain that beautiful skin. Here are a few tips on how we keep our skin looking great.

 1. Drink lots of water!

  • Hydration is key y’all! We are definitely guilty of being thirsty and automatically going for a coffee, but we have really been trying to drink more water, and we have totally noticed a difference!

2. Healthy Eating!

  • We truly believe you are what you eat! Maintaining a balanced diet is a big part of how we keep our skin looking clear and glowing. Lots of veggies and fruits for us. Our body and skin say THANK YOU!!

 3. Protect your skin!

  • Not going to lie, our teenage years were a lot of seeing how tan we could get in the summer- yikes! And we may have be guilty of making frequent visit to the tanning beds in the snowy winters.  Nowadays we lather the sunscreen on and have traded tanning beds for organic SPRAY TANS (Charleston Glow is our fav).

4. Consistency is KEY!

  • Find a routine that works for you and STICK to it. Make sure you are cleaning your face at night especially after a long day of life. For us, we usually get home pretty late from our bartending gig and some nights we just want to jump right into bed, but we make the effort to take off our makeup and clean our face realllll well.

5. Invest in your skin!

  • Trust me y’all, we are girls on a budget, but when it comes to our skin, we are willing to spend a little extra. Having clear and healthy skin makes us feel good and gives us the confidence to take on the world.

Here are the products that we have been using that truly work for our skin. Also, for all you Charleston locals, Magnolia Dermatology carries all of these items, and have been so AWESOME in helping us find what products work for our skin type. Go visit them if y’all need help with any skin problem or question!

Living Room Inspo: Modern Map Art

modern map art

Just a quick post here! Thought it would be fun to share some of our own home (well studio) inspo. We absolutely love decorating our space and making it feel like home. Since Charleston has been our home for almost 3 years now, we thought we would incorporate it into our living space to remind us of how blessed we are to call this place home.

We found Modern Map Art, who make these fun maps of your country, city, or state. You can also order your map in different sizes and colors too, which is nice if you have a different color scheme going on.  We have it on our coffee table now but have been moving it all around our apartment to switch it up a bit.

Don’t know if y’all would be interested in seeing more home inspo, so we thought we would give this a try and see what y’all think.

All of our living room items have been linked below :)!! Have a wonderful day beauties!
