A Weekend Guide to Oregon Wine Country

This past weekend we visited Oregon for the first time! We made it our mission to fit in as much as we could in the short 4 days were we there. Here is a breakdown of where we stayed & what we did while in Oregon! Enjoy!

WHERE WE STAYED

Our Airbnb was the cutest little cottage nestled in the sweet little town of Newberg, right in the heart of Oregon’s wine country! This location was the best of both worlds; with a quick walk to downtown shops, restaurants, tasting rooms and a short drive to all the wineries the valley has to offer. We loved the fact that we could just walk to get coffee & breakfast in the morning! One of our favorite little spots for coffee & a morning treat was Newberg Bakery!

Our cottage came equipped with everything you could ever want with an airbnb. It was SUPER clean, comfortable & right out of an interior design magazine! Our favorite part of the house was the kitchen (literally our dream kitchen) and the fact that there was a backyard with a grill & cozy fire-pit (perfect for cooler nights).

Our host also has two other airbnbs located in Willamette valley that are just as picture perfect as our little cottage. We will leave a link to her website so y’all can check out the other rentals as well! She also put together a city guide of all of her favorite spots in town to check out while you are visiting!

WHERE WE WENT & WHAT WE DID

BREAKFAST AT Community Plate

Day 1 we took a short 20 minute ride into the sweet town of McMinnville to fuel up on some breakfast and coffee at a cool spot called Community Plate. Homey, rustic, simple decor with a kitchen banging out amazing meals. We all had an unreal breakfast but Carol’s Rueben sandwich took the cake. Hands down one of the best Rueben sandwiches we’ve ever had! Definitely make a stop here for coffee, breakfast or lunch, you will not be disappointed. Make sure to get a coffee to go and go explore the downtown streets!

Soter Vineyards Tasting & Wine Pairing

We treated ourselves to a food and wine pairing at the stunning Soter Vineyards. We opted in for their culinary experience, sampling their newest released wines paired with small plates and bites crafted from produce and meat from their biodynamic farm. We would totally recommend the food and wine pairing, but if thats not your thing, come have a glass of their wine on the patio, take in the views, and maybe even be greeted by one of the sweet dogs or cats running around the property.

Equestrian Wine Tour

This was without a doubt a highlight of our trip. We booked this very spontaneously and last minute, but we are so glad it worked out! Our guides took us through three different vineyards sharing stories and knowledge on the way. When we arrived we did however find out that the tastings at the vineyards were not included in the price of the tour, so that was a bit of a shock knowing how pricey the actual tour was, but it ended up being worth every penny. The tastings range from $15-$25 so make sure to bring cash or card with you.

INSIDER TIP: Pack snacks and/or a lunch for after your tour. The last stop has picnic tables perfect for a spread of cheese, crackers and fruits. Thank you to the sweet ladies in our group for letting us join in on theirs 😉

Below are the three wineries we visited while on our tour. Once again, the tour does not include the tastings, so bring cash or a card to pay!

WEDDING FESTIVITIES

The rehearsal dinner was at the stunning Lange Estate Winery & Vineyards. Without a doubt add this to your places to visit while in wine country. They have a gorgeous patio that overlooks the vineyards & entire valley. One of our favorite stops during out visit!

Black Floral Dress & White Heels Via Lulus

The wedding was held at Domaine de Brogile located in Dundee Hills. The views looked fake, like it was a painting. One of the most breathtaking wedding set ups we’ve ever seen. We ate, drank, and danced the night away with friends and family.

DAY TRIP TO THE COAST

Our last day in Oregon we had all of Sunday to do whatever we wanted! So, of course we couldn’t pass up on the short hour and a half drive to the coast, Cannon Beach to be specific. We cranked up the music, got our coffees and headed down to the famous Haystack Rock.

To be quite honest, we did not research on where to go and what to do while we were down on the coast, so we just went with the flow and started to drive. Next stop we ended up at was the beautiful Ecola State park. Hit up Indian Beach and the lighthouse view, it will not disappoint.

CANNON BEACH MAIN STREET

We asked the park ranger where we could satisfy our craving for fish & chips and clam chowder and he said head down to Bill’s Tavern & Brewhouse. We scored a table outside on their patio and enjoyed the sun while people watching.

OUR RIDE FOR THE WEEKEND

Our ride for our trip was the Mazda CX5 and it was seriously a dream car for our weekend in Oregon. We always felt incredibly safe because of the amazing features; the backup camera, blind spot monitoring, 360 birds eye view when backing up! The technology was so easy to work and synching our phone helped so much when we needed directions from A to B. What would we do without GPS?! Seriously a badass car & we LOVED driving it!

We didn’t exactly know where to go next after cannon beach so we headed down the coast and found some epic lookout views, along with a cute town where we stopped for an ice cream.

Oregon truly exceeded our expectations & we will most definitely be back for more. We hope this little guide of wine country gives you some fun ideas for your next trip out there!
